VERBS

verb

A verb describes a state of being. They express action, something that a person, animal, or thing do. It is simply said as "action" words.

Example :

Amy cooks dinner -  'cooks' is an action performed by Amy.
Robin sneezed at me - 'sneezed' is also a type of action.

other words are;

dance, smile, play, look, jump, kiss ,

All of these words tell what the subject does and therefore they are visible actions (which can be seen by other people) .

If you are unsure whether a sentence contains an action verb or not, look at every word in the sentence and ask yourself, "Is this something that a person or thing can do?"
More examples :

  • Dobbie takes her dog for a walk every day.
  • John called his mum just now.
  • She worries too much.
  • He knows that it is a wrong thing to do.

As you can see from the examples above, the action can be a visible action ( takes, called) or amental action (worries, knows).
